A true street rod with history, character, and serious power, this 1967 RHD VW Beetle, better known as "Sorry Olive," is a unique blend of nostalgia and performance, built to be driven and enjoyed.
Originally owned and cherished by a lady named Olive for 30 years, this Bug has since been transformed into a Cal-Look inspired street racer, combining period-correct aesthetics with modern high-performance engineering.
The car was purchased in 2018 from a reputable VW dealer, where it was then stripped back with a race-prepped gearbox but no engine. The vision? A no-nonsense, high-performance Bug that could hold its own on the street without losing its vintage soul. The build was entrusted to Type 2 Detectives, who reassembled and fine-tuned the car, ultimately fitting a John Maher-built engine producing an incredible 180.4 BHP, dyno-tested and road-proven. The result is a seriously quick and exhilarating Beetle that’s guaranteed to turn heads and surprise unsuspecting challengers off the line!
The exterior maintains its period patina, with graphics inspired by classic drag Bugs like the Inch Pincher and a tribute to its original owner with the "Sorry Olive" branding on the rear. The roll cage was expertly modified for better accessibility while keeping a 1970s race-inspired look, and the interior features aluminium bomber seats, retro upholstery, and OMP harness belts to complete the raw, track-ready aesthetic.
Mechanically, this Beetle is a weapon on the road, with a stroked 2276cc air-cooled engine, a Porsche-style CSP fan setup, and a fully sorted suspension and braking system. The gearbox has been modified to make it more road-friendly while delivering lightning-fast acceleration. It’s sitting on Fuchs and Erco wheels, with Blockley front tyres for added grip. Thanks to a CSP Python 42mm system, the exhaust note is reassuring to say the least, ensuring this Bug sounds as mean as it looks.
This is not a Beetle for the faint-hearted—it’s a purpose-built, high-performance machine that can be enjoyed as it is or taken even further. With a wealth of history, documentation, and spare parts included, it’s a well-known car in the scene and an incredible opportunity for the next owner to continue its legacy.
