For sale: 1963 Volkswagen LHD Microbus Deluxe 15 Window
A true time capsule’

This 1963 Volkswagen 15-window De Luxe is an exceptional survivor – a genuine time capsule that retains an extraordinary degree of originality.

Originally supplied in France, the bus spent its entire life on the French south coast. In the 1980s, with just 26,000 km covered, it was laid up due to a valve engine issue. Stored away in a barn, it remained untouched until rediscovered in 2016 and was first registered in the UK in 2019. The odometer now reads just 40,000 km, reflecting its very low-mileage life.

The body, covered in sealing wax red and beige grey. The underside shows only a couple of small spots of surface rust, testament to the dry climate it lived in. The paintwork is 98% original, with only the roof repainted due to localised wear – the rest is preserved factory finish, full of patina and charm.

Inside, the originality continues with the original headliner and the original three seats still wearing their factory covers. The cargo area and cab mat are also original, while details such as the working fuel gauge and clock add to the bus’s authenticity.

Mechanically, the bus runs with a non-original 1500 engine, though the OG 1200 engine comes with it should you wish to swap it out, and it retains its original matching front beam. This balance makes it both drivable and exceptionally collectable as an unrestored survivor.

Opportunities to acquire a Split Screen with this degree of originality, history, and honesty are incredibly rare. For collectors or enthusiasts seeking a genuine time capsule, this is one of the finest.
