About Resto Haus
From a very young age Bob Burrows' Dad installed in him the better build quality of a Volkswagen opposed to the alternatives.
Bob's Dad ran a T2 panel van. Delivering for his business. Bob even learnt to drive in his first bright orange T2 panel van.
Fast forward a few years and quite a few VW’s...Bob’s daughters and wife caught the “Bug”, if you’ll pardon the pun. Often helping Dad out in the workshop and enjoying the shows...together with simply using them.
Bob’s first Splitscreen was a ‘67 13 window, which was fully restored and slightly modified. By Bob’s friend Carl Klinkenborg. It went on to win at every show it entered and was proudly featured on the front cover of Volksworld magazine. It was named “Mr Bo Jangles” when one day his girls asked what it was called and it just stuck. As Bob explains it was “Mr Bo”, that got me so well known within the VW community. Which has helped my business ever since.
After many years of tinkering, restoring and selling VW’s... Resto Haus was born in 2011 and became Bob’s full-time occupation. Initially focussing on restoring air-cooled Volkswagens, selling just a few each year.
At a similar time, we set up a wedding transport business. Sharing our lovely Mr Bo Jangles. Together with another Splitscreen, 2 Beetle convertibles and our beautiful 1963 Karmann Ghia convertible. We loved the happiness our stunning old VW’s brought to so many people's special days. We actually went on to win 'The Wedding Awards' twice for our service. Which is the way we try to run Resto Haus as well.
We also ran 'Big Sunday', for 5 years. A charity VW show right by the side of the gorgeous, golden sands of Croyde beach. The idea was to invite fellow Volkswagen enthusiasts to spend the day enjoying the surf and sand. Having a picnic and enjoying the company of friends and family. Which was great and very successful.
After 8 years we decided to sell the wedding business to focus on Resto Haus. We’ve been fortunate enough to restore some very special vehicles over the years and have even exhibited at 'The Volksworld Show' along with some of the best cars in Europe, of which we’re very proud of.
Throughout the years we’ve increased the size of our workshops and sales display space 4 times. I still have my best friend working alongside me in the body shop. He has almost 40 years of experience. So very much traditional family values make it a lovely place to work and on the vehicles that we love. Over the years the demand for owners to employ my help to sell their vehicles has become more and more. So I now focus purely on the sales and average around 40-50 in stock. Our facility gives us the ability to display every vehicle indoors. Polished and looking their best. Roofs elevated, original awnings erected...so you can see every little detail and even in the colder months, you can lay down on the carpeted floor and check the underside.
With around 80% of our sales being online, it's imperative to show buyers every detail. As if they were viewing the vehicle in person, so we now display many photos, together with walk round videos of both inside and outside, a video of the underside and a cold start, driving video. This way you see as much as possible and my genuine honest appraisal, will eliminate the gamble that buying normally can bring.
Bob still drives an air-cooled Volkswagen to work every day and is passionate about what he offers. Trina, his wife and his daughters are still Bob's backbone and we still all love the simple joys that an air-cooled classic can bring.
It's what memories are made of and if we can help other people experience the same thing...then that makes us happy.
