For sale: 1971 RHD Citroën DS21 – Semi-Automatic

Beautifully restored and extensively overhauled by leading UK DS specialists’

This 1971 Citroën DS21 offers the unmistakable silhouette, advanced engineering, and French elegance that made the DS a design icon. A left-hand drive example, it was restored in 2015 at a cost of £28,000 by its previous owner, followed by an extensive mechanical overhaul by one of the UK’s most respected Citroën DS experts.

The bodywork, panels, and chassis are superb, with Dinitrol Wax treatment applied to the underside and chassis sections by a DS specialist.

Outside it presents extremely well – not concours, the paintwork isn’t factory fresh, although it is extremely bright. The hydraulic suspension operates exactly as it should, delivering that signature ‘magic carpet’ ride.

Inside, the original leather ‘Tabac’ interior is in good order, blending comfort with the wonderfully offbeat DS dashboard layout. Mechanically, the semi-automatic gearbox is smooth, the 2.1-litre engine pulls strongly, the steering is light, and the brakes – with the DS’s advanced disc system – are powerful and reassuring.

During restoration, the car benefited from a meticulous overhaul covering all systems:

Brakes: New front discs, pads, and handbrake pads; overhauled callipers with new pistons and seals; new ducting, pressure regulator, and brake accumulator sphere.

Suspension: Hydraulic system refreshed with new height correctors, pipework, bump stops (front and rear), anti-roll bar bushes, and main accumulator sphere.

Steering: Reconditioned steering rack; early-style steering wheel.

Fuel & Ignition: New fuel tank, ECU (NOS), injectors, fuel rail pressure regulator, cold start injector, heat shield, fuel pipes, pump, and sender unit.

Engine: New timing chain, tensioner, guide, camshaft seal, engine mounts, radiator, and fan.

Gearbox & Clutch: Clutch compensator, centrifugal clutch, gearbox engine mount.

Electrical: Partial new wiring harness, new alternator.

Bodywork: Correct refitting of front and rear screens with new seals; new rear wing and epaulet.

This DS21 has been maintained to a standard that prioritises driving enjoyment over show condition – it is mechanically exceptional and set up correctly in every respect. Serviced by a Citroën specialist in Kent, it has been described as a “superbly driving car".

A very special DS21, offering rarity, originality, and expert preparation.
