1972 Danbury VW Camper – Rare, Original & Beautifully Restored
Danbury conversions were never produced in the same numbers as Devon and Westfalia, making this 1972 Danbury Camper an exceptionally rare find—especially in such original condition.
Originally registered in August 1972, this camper remained with its first family until 1988, when it was purchased by John Forrester and his wife, Gill. For over two decades, the couple enjoyed countless summer adventures in their beloved VW, until 2012, when Gill sadly lost her long battle with Motor Neurone Disease (MND). In her memory, John embarked on a full restoration, not only to preserve this incredible camper but also to raise awareness and funds for MND research.
The bare metal restoration saw the van resprayed in its original Niagara Blue & Pastel White, while the interior was carefully restored to retain its period-correct authenticity. The original Danbury cabinetry was sanded and revarnished, and period-correct materials were sourced to match the original finish as closely as possible.
Inside, this camper is a true time capsule—the cooker has never been used and still comes with its original, hand-typed instructional leaflet. Even the iconic Danbury-patterned flooring remains completely original.
Displaying 52,910 miles (Non-Verified), this Danbury camper is a rare opportunity to own a beautifully preserved piece of VW history, with a heartwarming story behind it.
