This beautiful Oval is an original RHD Australian ragtop, April 1956. The current owner purchased it as a project for his wife and has certainly done a brilliant job.

This car was delivered to Australia in L331 Horizon Blue, the car lived many lives over the years, wearing no fewer than eight different paint layers—including, at one point, a coat of matte black household paint. During its refurbishment in April 2025, all paint was painstakingly removed by hand—burned and scraped back—to reveal the car beneath before being refinished in its current L225 Jupiter Grey.

Given the extent of age-related wear, the restoration focused heavily on preserving as much originality as possible. Remarkably, the only replacement panel required was the spare wheel well, as the original had rusted through. All other repairs were carefully carried out, including welding to the bonnet hinge crack, both door bottoms, the rear arch, and a hole in the roof where an original aerial mount had once been.

Where original components could be saved, they were—but some brightwork had unfortunately deteriorated beyond recovery. As a result, no expense was spared in replacing these items with high-quality stainless steel components, including door handles, engine lid handle, front and rear bumpers, overriders, exhaust tips, deluxe trim, and running board trims. Additional upgrades include new rubber door seals, a vintage speed gear knob, bonnet tray, wiring cover, and a spare wheel-mounted fuel can. The fuel tank has also been flushed, cleaned, and refinished.

Inside, the car has been thoughtfully refreshed for comfort and quality. It features Dodo Mat soundproofing beneath Wolfsburg West underlay, complemented by custom Wolfsburg West carpets and new front and rear door cards.

The car retains a number of charming period-correct accessories, including the Aussie “rocket,” an ADAC badge (stamped Munich), a brass St Christopher, a Munich vase, and a rare gearstick-mounted ashtray.

Mechanically, the car has been fully serviced, with new components throughout. It features an external oil filter and a fuel filter mounted to the gearbox. It is running on a 1600 engine, plenty enough to help you get up hills. It has a super nice stance and is currently sat on EMPI Sprintstar alloys. The gearbox itself has been professionally rebuilt by Bears Motorsports and has covered fewer than 600 miles since completion. A new battery with quick-release clamps has also been fitted.

This is a rare opportunity to own a thoughtfully restored and highly original Aussie-built Oval ragtop, blending authenticity with tasteful upgrades—ready to be enjoyed by its next custodian.
