For Sale – 1960 Volkswagen Splitscreen Crew Cab
A truly outstanding, award-winning example of a 1960 VW Splitscreen Crew Cab — fully restored from the ground up with exceptional attention to detail. This truck combines period-correct aesthetics with modern drivability, making it as usable as it is collectable.
Power comes from a 2276cc engine with twin 40mm Weber carburettors, mated to a Type 1 Freeway Flyer gearbox for effortless cruising. The front end features a narrowed adjustable beam with dropped spindles, complemented by a new steering box and track rod ends. At the rear, a straight axle conversion with adjustable spring plates ensures both stance and stability.
Braking is handled by CSP front discs and Type 3 rear brakes, while the truck rides on Crest alloys — giving it a perfectly balanced look and feel. The restoration, carried out by Brickfield, was comprehensive: the shell was stripped and media-blasted before receiving extensive metalwork, including new front arches, valance, inner and outer panels, screen repair sections, and new floors throughout. Further work included new cargo door skins, engine lid, engine bay side panels, NOS rear corners, new drop gates, and fabricated engine compartment strengtheners and rear bulkhead panels. Displaying 40,281 miles. The interior is also completely new with Porsche style Pepita cloth which really matches the theme of the truck.
A late Bay fuel tank was fitted to increase fuel capacity, and the full interior trim was completed by Bromsgrove Trim Shop. The signwriting and livery were beautifully executed by Neil and Mandy Meliard.
“Head-turner” doesn’t begin to cover it — this is a show-winning Crew Cab that reflects the very best of British VW restoration craft. Ready to display, drive, or add to any serious collection.
