Built on a shortened 1971 Volkswagen Beetle floorpan and correctly registered as a Volkswagen convertible, this buggy is believed to be fitted with a Sidewinder body. We understand the body was originally supplied by East Coast Buggies, at the time run by the well-known buggy builder Mel Hubbard. Finished in a classic blue metalflake gel coat with flared arches and Martini-style stripes, it looks exactly as a beach buggy should — bold, playful and full of character.
 

The stance is spot on, sitting on chrome Modular wheels and detailed with chrome headlights, indicators and classic racing mirrors. The polished stainless steel screen surround and roll bar add to the period look, while the 1300cc air-cooled engine is neatly presented and paired with dual cannon exhausts, delivering that unmistakable soundtrack these cars are loved for.
 

Inside, you’ll find black Mamba bucket seats fitted with four-point harnesses, giving a secure, purposeful driving position. A matching rear bench seat with two lap belts makes it practical enough for short trips with passengers, while still keeping things simple and true to the buggy ethos.
 

Mechanically, the buggy has been well cared for and recently benefited from sensible maintenance to ensure it runs as it should. Recent work includes a new starter motor, new battery and battery tray, a full service, carburettor strip and clean, and new fuel lines.
