Where do you start when this Type 3 Estate Squareback has so much to talk about? A “Best of show” winner at Volksworld, and a winner for all the right reasons. Brian Burrows had a dream in creating a boundary pushing never seen before vehicle and here it sits in our showroom.
Starting at the front (in the frunk) you find an ATL composite fuel cell surrounded in an aluminium box with a remote oil cooler located in front. It has a one of a kind carbon fibre front bumper. To make it mildly less terrifying to drive, there are ballast tanks up front to even out the weight distribution.
Moving into the cab you will find the stripped out interior with racing style carbon fibre bucket seats and harnesses installed and an aftermarket Momo steering wheel.
It sits on gorgeous Porsche Boxster wheels to suit the running Porsche theme. This Squareback has plenty of custom metalwork done by Tim Hammond Engineering. He had a wide knowledge of street rods and applied this to his work on the transformation. Brian Burrows said to Tim “Do what you do best, you don’t tell a hairdresser how to cut your hair”. Tim would produce and send Brian photos of what he had in mind for the chassis (the front end now comprises a double wishbone IFS Mini rack and pinion steering column via universal joints.) and they would back and forth until happy.
The side vents are copied from a Ford GT40 in steel that pipes cold air into the engine bay. There is also a space behind the rear number plate that sucks in cold air to help keep the 6 pot under control.
The current owner has had the engine re-built by BS motorsport and Gantspeed (both being Porsche specialists) with no expense spared with the very best of components. A 6 speed Porsche gearbox with a lightweight RS Porsche flywheel and clutch, Motec engine management system running Jenvey throttle bodies. It has Mhale 3.8 liter barrels and pistons, Schrick high lift cam shafts, new high compression valves all ported and flowed. It was tuned by Cambridge Motorsport and produces well over 350bhp with the dyno sheets to prove! It can be tuned higher but currently very reliable and easy to drive. The suspension was tuned by Centre of Gravity.
New tyres fitted and a brand new one off custom Powerflow all stainless exhaust.
You can agree a car like this is made to be driven as it deserves.
Painted in a Porsche Polar Silver for a monochrome feel that continues through every well made decision.
Priced at £34,995 with 4283 miles on the clock since engine rebuild.
