This awesome Bay Window camper was imported into the UK from Australia and fully restored by South West Splitz in Exeter in 2013. Originally a VW green tin-top, it had a damaged roof, so the restoration included fitting an Australian Sunliner vertical pop-up roof with new Kayospruce blue acrylic canvas and white fly screen mesh windows. The van underwent a full respray—white on top, with a Laguna Blue lower portion—both inside and out.

Inside, the floor features a plywood sub-base with blue studded penny dot non-slip rubber flooring throughout the cab and rear living space. The original front seats were reupholstered in cream with blue piping. A full-width Rusty Lee rock-and-roll bed was installed, along with a Rusty Lee buddy seat and side extension, all upholstered to match. Additional upgrades include a black anodised aluminium T-handle handbrake and a Triumph-style 17-inch wood-rim steering wheel with riveted hardwood and aluminium detailing.

Purpose-made, double-sided striped curtains are mounted on sliding rails and secured at the bottom with neodymium magnets. The front seats are equipped with blue inertia reel seat belts, while the rear seats have fixed-point belts.

The custom-built oak interior unit features a blue Formica worktop with exposed plywood edging. Storage includes a large cupboard with a side-hung panelled door, a pull-out drawer, and drop-down access to the under-sink storage. The kitchen area includes a Smev 8022 double-burner hob with piezo ignition, a Campingaz 907 gas cylinder housed in a cupboard with a gas drop vent, and a Waeco Coolmatic CR50 two-way electric fridge with an oak plywood-faced door.

Additional furnishings include an overhead rear locker in white melamine and a white melamine table with a Fiamma single post support, a folding three-foot base, and a conical table connector. The electrical system consists of a main 12V battery alongside a heavy-duty 12V leisure battery, a fuse board, and a 240V electric hook-up with an extension lead and 13A plug connector.

The van retains its original air-cooled 2.0-litre flat-four engine, now paired with a new VW gearbox. It features electronic ignition and twin carburettors.

The wheels are fitted with original half-moon hubcaps and received new tyres—including the spare—in 2013. In 2021, all wheels were powder-coated white.

Additional exterior features include a Just Kampers breathable van cover with side door access, a Bluebird insulated window cover, and a Blue Bus Shelter awning with three poles, guy ropes, and pegs. A tow bar with an electric lighting board connection is fitted but has never been used for towing, originally installed for a cycle rack.

The van is fitted with a Kenwood radio & CD player, with speakers positioned in the front doors and rear seating area.

Included spare parts and accessories:

  • Clutch cable & accelerator cable
  • Original VW jack in a material bag
  • Haynes Workshop Manual
  • How to Keep Your VW Alive book
