There’s something undeniably special about a car that tells its story just by sitting still. This 1963 Volkswagen Beetle is one of those rare survivors—unrestored, unspoiled, and full of heart. Her name is Lucille.
Originally sold new at Century Motor Sales in Alhambra, California—a dealership made all the more notable by the legendary VW drag racer Dean Lowry working there—Lucille was purchased brand new by a Mrs. Lucille Senor. She drove the car regularly until 1979 and meticulously maintained it with a full service history up until that point.
After she stopped driving, the Beetle was carefully garaged until the mid-'90s. It wasn’t until 2012 that the car was rediscovered and shipped to the UK, and eventually registered here in 2014. Prior to UK registration, a handful of age-related parts were replaced using only the best—West Coast Metric door and window scraper seals, and original UK-market NOS head and tail light lenses.
The result? A truly untouched survivor that still wears its original L87 Pearl White paint, original panels, factory carpets, and seating. This is not a car that’s been restored—it’s been preserved.
Lucille runs beautifully—the original 1200cc engine fires up smoothly and drives like a dream. With such low mileage (27646 miles non-verified) and authenticity, she offers not just a classic driving experience but a piece of VW history that’s becoming harder and harder to find.
Now nestled in our North Devon showroom, Lucille is ready for her next chapter—whether that’s to remain preserved as a time capsule, become part of a cherished collection, or to bring quiet joy to a new home.
